What's best about the School of Public Health and Health Services at GW?

I love that the department is small and very personable. All of the professors are very approachable, knowledgeable and friendly. The courses are amazing and I feel like I have gained tons of real world information.

What's best about living in the Washington, DC Area?

There are endless opportunities for employment positions as well as volunteer opportunities. There is so much history in this area that is amazing to be a part of. You always feel like you are in the midst of world action. And besides classes, there is a lot of entertainment and things to do.

My message to applicants:

Find something that you love to do and do it. Exercise Science is a growing field and one that is very important in today's society. The GW School of Public Health and Health Services is a great place to grow and gain information regarding this industry. The location could not be better and the professors are top notch.

What's best about the School of Public Health and Health Services at GW?

I love that I'm part of program that is relatively small. I just switched into the School of Public Health and Health Services as an exercise science major this semester and I have already gotten to know many other students in my major. It's a community I feel apart of within GW.

What's best about living in the Washington, DC Area?

I love being able to run around the city, especially around the monuments. I also enjoy exploring the city by going to museums, finding fun neighborhood restaurants outside the GW campus, and going to the movies.

My message to applicants:

I believe it's a great school to go into, because students have so many options they can choose from for a major and potentially a wide array of career paths after they graduate. If you're not 100% sure on what you want your major to be, but you know you have an interest in this "area", I think this school is a wonderful option. As a student you can start off taking more general classes pertaining to different subjects within the school, but after being in the program you can find an area you are specifically fascinated with. I know that just through the Exercise Science major you can have a concentration in pre-health, health and fitness, or athletic training. By earning a BS in Exercise Science numerous "doors" can open for different graduate schools or career options. It's also beneficial that the sizes of classes are small and you get to really know the faculty.

What's best about the School of Public Health and Health Services at GW?

The best thing about the SPHHS is the close attention you get from advisors and professors. The school is small which means you can get to know everyone very well, as well as receive wonderful guidance.

What's best about living in the Washington, DC Area?

The greatest thing about living in Washington, DC is that you're right in the middle of all the action. The city is always going and you can never be bored here. Between the historical sites, night life, and amazing connections you can make, DC is the best place to be.

My message to applicants:

I would highly recommend GW if you want to attend a school with lots of action and self- fulfilling activities. If interested in exercise science or athletic training, then even more reason to come. The teachers in both these departments are some of the best in my opinion, and they are extremely approachable. Even if not interested in the SPHHS, you can get you so many connections and a lot of history will be and can be made when at The George Washington University.

Name: Christine Moloney
Home Town: South Hempstead, New York Current Degree Sought: BS
Email: cmoloney@gwu.edu Current Program: Exercise Science Pre-Health Prof. Pre-Medical
What's best about the School of Public Health and Health Services at GW?

In the School of Public Health and Health Services, I am able to fulfill my pre-medical requirements while taking classes that are specialized towards my interests. Because I know that I have a definite interest in Sports Medicine and would like to continue my studies in the field, taking Exercise Science classes enables me to specialize my studies and learn more about the field which I hope to one day practice within.

What's best about living in the Washington, DC Area?

I come from New York and spend a lot of time in New York City, so I am used to a busy city life. DC has the best of both worlds when it comes to suburban and urban, because although there is a definite city feel and pace around GW, there is also a quieter, enclosed campus atmosphere. Being a lover of the arts, I really enjoy having free museums and performance spaces within walking distance. Everything you need is either in walking distance or a stop away on the metro, so the entire city is completely accessible to students.

My message to applicants:

I absolutely love this school and could not be happier with my decision to join. The School of Public Health and Health Services is a perfect fit for students who are looking for a career in healthcare, especially for athletes or those interested in working with physically active individuals. I find the school incredibly personal. I am able to form connections and relationships with my professors and fellow classmates because of the smaller nature of the school within the larger university. I would be more than willing to answer any questions regarding the school or GW in general.

Because the School of Public Health and Health Services is a smaller program there is more individual attention given by the staff to the students. The advisors are a great resource of knowledge and guidance that you will truly get to know through one on one contact.

What's best about the School of Public Health and Health Services at GW?

I love the professors and the options made available to students in the SPHHS. Professors are always willing to help and encouraging of everyone, and GW is one of the few schools in the country that offers graduate programs in athletic training, strength and conditioning, and physical therapy.

What's best about living in the Washington, DC Area?

The DC area is always full of exciting and intellectual things to do. So far I have visited the monuments, the capitol, heard the Dalai Lama and President Bush speak, visited the capitol, and taken advantage of the many amazing restaurants the city has to offer. There is always something to do or see, there are thousands of options for students interested in health care, and the city draws so many diverse people that there is always someone new to talk to or meet.

My message to applicants:

GW is the most exciting, intellectually stimulated, and diverse place I have ever been. Besides the people, the activities, and the options the city has to offer, I love my major. The classes for my major are interesting, helpful for my future, and most importantly, fun. At GW, students learn, gain real world experience, meet amazing people, and love the environment in which they live. GW has something for everyone.
