![]() Sarah Baird, Ph.D., M.S.Sarah Baird is Assistant Professor in the Department of Global Health.
A development economist, Dr. Baird’s focus on health, education, and poverty has involved her in issues as diverse as the schooling and health of young women in Malawi, community-driven development in Tanzania, deworming in Kenya, and global infant mortality. In Malawi, she is studying the impact of a cash transfer program on education, sexual behavior and the HIV/STD risk of school-aged women, while in Tanzania, she is examining the influence of income-generating projects on the health, nutrition, education, income and consumption levels of vulnerable populations. Dr. Baird also studied the impact on fluctuations in the business cycle on infant mortality around the world, and conducted field work in Vietnam on the ability of households to protect themselves against unexpected shocks. Prior to joining SPHHS in 2009, Dr. Baird was a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California at San Diego, where she taught a “Corporate Strategy and the Environment” course.
