The Student Association OfficersPresident:Andrew Peteapete@gwmail.gwu.edu Andrew is originally from Fresno, California and prior to beginning his graduate studies he was the marketing director for a 239-bed skilled nursing facility in the San Francisco area. In 2007, He graduated from Brigham Young University with a BA in Communications and became interested in healthcare while interacting with healthcare executives at local chamber of commerce events. Andrew's current interests include strategic marketing and planning, quality improvement, and business development in an acute care setting. Andrew's past leadership experience include being the vice president of the BYU Student Alumni Association and president of the BYU Young Alumni Association. Vice President:Jasveen Kaurjaskaur@gwmail.gwu.edu Jasveen Kaur went to nine secondary schools around the world before attending the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a minor in Biology in 2008. Jasveen is interested in strategic planning, quality improvement, and acute care hospital management. Before coming to GW, Jasveen was a marketing manager in Manhattan and had the opportunity to organize community events for children in Harlem and build connections with school and business leaders in the area. In her role as Vice President, Jasveen is looking forward to strengthening student participation with NCHE and in events held outside the classroom. Treasurer:Kevin BeckerKevinB@gwmail.gwu.edu Kevin Becker is from Baltimore, Maryland. He attended the University of Florida and received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a major in Finance and a minor concentration in Real Estate. He is currently employed as a Program Financial Analyst by Harris Corporation and is enrolled as a part time student in the HSML graduate program. He plans to pursue a career in acute care hospital management and/or management consulting. As Treasurer, Kevin hopes to provide excellent financial support to his fellow board members and the Association's ongoing projects, as well as, increase our membership benefits by finding new ways to utilize our capital. Communications Chair:Alexis Jaureguiaaj@gwmail.gwu.edu Alexis Jauregui is from Greensboro, North Carolina. She lived in Mexico City for ten years during her early childhood and is fluent in Spanish. Alexis attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health in Health Policy and Administration and a minor in Biology. Her current interest is in long-term care, particularly continuing care retirement communities. As Communications Chair, her goals are to work with other board members to strengthen overall awareness and increase participation in departmental events outside the classroom. Alexis plans to use both written and oral communication to keep everyone informed and promote HSML department events. Networking Chair:Desdemona Smithdmsmith@gwmail.gwu.edu Desdemona Smith, of Hartford, CT, received her BBA in Management in 2008 from Howard University. Her healthcare interests include physician practice administration, quality, productivity, and community health. As Networking Chair, she hopes to strengthen the cohesion of the HSML department by facilitating events that bring students throughout the department together, as well as offer volunteer and networking opportunities with peers in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Professional Development Chair:Maryana Katsmanmaryana@gwmail.gwu.edu Maryana Katsman grew up in Baltimore, MD and moved to Bethesda, MD in 2000. She received a B.S. in Biology and a Certificate in Business Management from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2008. She is interested in operations management in an acute care hospital focusing on quality improvement as well as an interest in strategic planning. As professional development chair, Maryana Katsman hopes to allow students the opportunity to connect with alumni as well as provide them with sources that will prepare them for the professional world. Recruitment Chair:Neema Shahnshah33@gwmail.gwu.edu Neema Shah was born and raised in Munster, Indiana. She attended Boston University and received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Public Health in 2007. Prior to beginning her graduate studies, Neema worked at the Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago coordinating and implementing various obstructive lung disease education programs. She is interested in operations management, strategic planning and quality improvement in acute and ambulatory settings. As Recruitment Chair, Neema hopes to further develop our relationship with the admissions office of the School of Public Health and Human Service. In addition, Neema hopes to continue to create a comprehensive process recruitment and retention through our website, social opportunities, visits to neighboring universities, and peer mentoring. |
