WELCOME FROM CHRISTINA L. BENJAMIN, PHAA PRESIDENTDear Fellow Alumni: On behalf of the Public Health Alumni Association (PHAA) Board, I would like to welcome you to the alumni website for the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services. I hope you will visit this website often to stay informed and connected with fellow alumni, faculty, staff and students throughout the year.
The new PHAA Board, selected by the alumni in May of 2008, is actively planning and coordinating events that we hope you will attend and enjoy. We are excited to continue developing and expanding partnerships with the Public Health Student Association, Delta Omega, G.W. Cancer Institute, G.W. Alumni Association, and Metropolitan Washington Public Health Association. Our goal is to reach out to all alumni of the School of Public Health and Health Services (SPHHS) to create a greater sense of pride and commitment to the School. This year, Board members will continue to engage and build relationships with alumni through social, professional development, community service and philanthropy. We have four committees for alumni to participate in:
To learn how you can become involved in serving on a Committee, please visit the "Get Involved" section of the alumni website. The PHAA is also proud of its role in helping to develop the Capital Connection Fund (CCF). To celebrate the School's tenth anniversary, SPHHS and the PHAA partnered to launch this fund, which will provide financial assistance for students to take advantage of off-campus research, internships, conferences and other professional development activities. CCF award recipients have conducted research, developed public health interventions, and presented their work at local, regional, and national conferences. Several local and global public health agencies and organizations have benefited from the work of students and recent alumni. Supported through contributions of alumni, faculty, and other friends of SPHHS, the Capital Connection Fund has awarded 34 students and recent alumni with more than $19,000 since the Fall 2007. We thank all of our alumni for their current and future support of this fund. Your involvement in the School is important to us. We hope that you will find a place in the association that satisfies you, whether it is through involvement on one of our committees, participation in our activities, or however else you wish to be involved.
