Greetings from Ross 106 and Happy New Year!

It's a new year, a new semester, and there are many new faces coming to Washington and to SPHHS.  We are especially delighted to welcome seven new faculty, including five in the Department of Global Health, and 50 new graduate students.

Also new for SPHHS is a Master of Public Health degree in Environmental Health Science and Policy.  Recognizing the environmental challenges confronting the nation, our Environmental and Occupational Health's program will emphasize regulatory policy and sustainability, and provide practical experience taking full advantage of our Washington, D.C. location.

And speaking of our location, the School of Public Health and Health Services will join newly inaugurated President Barack Obama as he proceeds down Pennsylvania Avenue on January 20, 2009.  Students are building a float representing GW's academic community, celebrating our learners, our alumni, our research, service, and leadership contributions to the city, the nation and the world. The first and last time GW was represented in the Inaugural Parade was at the inauguration of President Truman.

Alumni are vital to the ongoing success of SPHHS - and we hope our resources and connections can play an important role in your professional accomplishments as well. I encourage you to be in touch to let me know how we can best serve our alumni and please consider how you might play a role in helping to produce the next generation of public health leaders.

Josef J. Reum, PhD '00
Interim Dean
Associate Dean for Administration and Finance
Associate Professor of Health Services Management and Leadership and of Health Policy
