Separation of Academic/Health Professional Roles in the Provision of Sensitive Health Treatment
Health professionals who provide psychiatric/psychological counseling or other sensitive health services to students in the School of Medicine and Health Sciences must have no involvement in the academic evaluation or promotion of the students receiving those services.
Every faculty member has an obligation to assure that he/she has no involvement in the academic evaluation or promotion of any student who has received psychiatric/psychological counseling or other sensitive health services from that faculty member.
- If a student determines that he/she will be subject to academic evaluation by a faculty member who has provided psychiatric/psychological counseling or other sensitive health services, he/she must immediately notify the course/clerkship director and/or Dean’s office. The course/clerkship director or Dean must reassign the student to a new clinical site or remove the faculty member from any role in supervision or evaluation of the student.
- If a faculty member determines that he/she will be involved in the academic evaluation or promotion of a student for whom he/she provided psychiatric/psychological counseling or other sensitive health services, he/she must immediately notify the course/clerkship director. The course/clerkship director must reassign the student to a new clinical site or remove the faculty member from any role in supervision or evaluation of the student.
- If a faculty member determines that he/she will be providing or has provided psychiatric/psychological counseling or other sensitive health services to a student whom he/she is teaching, he/she must notify the course/clerkship director and/or the Dean’s office and recuse him/herself from any evaluation of that student.
