What is RSS?
RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication" and is a XML (eXtensible Markup Language) file format for displaying web content. Subscribing to RSS feeds allows you to receive updated information from multiple web sites in one location.
How do I read a RSS feed?
In order to read a RSS file, a feed reader or aggregator is needed. There are over 2,000 feed reading applications available with a variety of functions and advantages. Feed readers can be browser-based or desktop applications. When using a browser-based feed reader, you may need to set up an online account which will allow you to access your feeds from any location with internet access. Alternatively, you can install a plug-in which will configure an individual browser at a specific workstation. Some suggested browser-based feed readers include:
- Bloglines
- FireFox (via ‘LiveBookmarks’ feature)
- Google Reader
- My Yahoo
Adding a Feed
Click on the Feed icon. Copy and paste the RSS feed url into your feed reader of choice.
