EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

elcome to the Educational Programs of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The department has a rich history, which spans many decades, in the area of biochemistry and molecular biology education. The current faculty has a strong commitment to continue that tradition. A solid education in both the classroom and laboratory is essential in the development of successful scientists, health professionals and future academic biomedical leaders.

To address the educational needs of the 21st century students various modes of teaching are used: lectures; lab courses, small group discussions; independent study; and one on one. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their education with the faculty being available to help them.

The department has a core teaching faculty of three professors. This faculty is responsible for the development and most of the teaching in the core biochemistry courses: all of the undergraduate courses; the introductive course for the graduate programs; the allied health biochemistry course and the medical biochemistry course.  The research faculty has the responsibility to develop and teach the advanced courses of the master and PhD program in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics, and closely work with students to nurture and expend their interest in laboratory-based research. Such an approach has been successful and very beneficial to both the students and faculty.

There are links below to the various departmental programs: undergraduate, master and graduate, allied health and medical.
