Peusner, Ph.D., Professor of Anatomy and Regenerative Biology, awarded 2-year renewal of her NIHR01 grant under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, entitled "Synaptic Transmission During Neuronal Differentiation", worth $1.3 million. April 23, 2009 - Eric E. April 17, 2009 - Ronald C. Bohn, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Anatomy and Regenerative Biology, received the 2009 Golden Apple Award in recognition of his outstanding medical school teaching. This is Dr. Bohn's 11th award!

February 15, 2009 - Anastas Popratiloff, M.D., Ph.D., Associate Research Professor of Anatomy and Regenerative Biology, and Director of the GWUMC Center for Microscopy and Image Analysis (CMIA), awarded an NIH NCRR Shared Instrumentation Grant worth $500,000 to purchase a new confocal laser scanning microscope for the CMIA. November 14, 2007 - Robert G. Hawley, Ph.D., Professor and Chair of Anatomy and Regenerative Biology, was a featured speaker in the "Frontiers of Applied Life Sciences" session showcasing GW’s research efforts in celebration of the Inauguration of Dr. Steven Knapp as GW's 16th president: The title of Dr. Hawley's presentation was "Stem Cell Biology: Toward Regenerative Medicine".

September 28, 2007 - Mary Ann Stepp, Ph.D., Professor of Anatomy and Regenerative Biology and of Ophthamology, awarded 5-year NIHR01 grant worth $2.8 million: The renewal grant, entitled "Molecular Aspects of Corneal Epithelial Migration", will support Dr. Stepp's studies focused on understanding how corneal epithelial stem cells are maintained within their niche in normal tissue homeostasis and during wound healing. September 13, 2007 - The Medical Center announced that the name of the Department had been officially changed to the "Department of Anatomy and Regenerative Biology" from the "Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology": The name change for the Department, which had been passed by the Medical Center Faculty Senate on September 5, 2007, reflects the major research efforts of current faculty members and will facilitate the recruitment of top-tier candidates who will engage in leading-edge research in stem cell and regenerative biology.

September 12, 2007 - GW President Dr. Steven Knapp visited the Department: Dr. Steven Knapp, who became GW's 16th president on August 1, 2007, was given a tour of Dr. Robert Hawley's laboratory during his visit to the Medical Center. See photos.

August 1, 2007 - Anne E. Chiaramello, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Anatomy and Regenerative Biology, awarded NIHR01 grant worth $1 million: The renewal grant, entitled "Transcriptional Dynamics of Neuronal Survival", will support Dr. Chiaramello's studies focused on dissecting the underlying mechanisms of the transcriptional network linking the neuronal survival pathway to the differentiation program. July 19, 2007 - Sally A. Moody, Ph.D., Professor of Anatomy and Regenerative Biology, published a new book: Dr. Moody's book, Principles of Developmental Genetics (Academic Press), highlights the intersection of developmental biology with genomic technologies, and details how these advances have accelerated our understanding of the molecular genetic processes that regulate development. July 1, 2007 - Janette M. Krum, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Anatomy and Regenerative Biology and of Neurological Surgery, appointed Director of Undergraduate Studies: In this capacity, Dr. Krum will be directly responsible for the oversight of all courses conducted by or through the Department that are targeted to medical students, health sciences students, and undergraduate CCAS students.
